If you are into computer/console  games, you know that Japan is a hotbed for gaming consoles and computer games. They produce some of the top games and depending on the type of game, you could learn Japanese by playing a Japanese language game. For instance role playing/adventure type games will feature much written text and spoken words. If you can play these games in the Japanese language the chances are you could actually learn the language.

The thing with many computer games is that you play them often and you have to repeat many stages to progress to the end of the game. This is perfect when it comes to learning anything new. Repetition helps things sink into the head and before you know it, you will probably be able to say a few Japanese words or sentences.

If the game is good the addictive qualities will make you want to play the game over and over. Even simple shoot em up games may have bit of Japanese text and the odd spoken word here and there. This can help you learn. It may not be the fastest way to learn Japanese but it is certainly the easiest.

This method of learning through repetition is a common way to teach anything but it is only successful if the thing that makes you come back for more is truly catchy or addictive. For instance, many non English speaking people during the heyday of the Beatles, learned English by listening to their songs and singing along.

The songs lyrics were simple concepts – love being the main one in the early songs. And the songs were so catchy that people loved to keep on singing them. They may not have taught the nuts and bolts of the English language but they gave many a student a good start.

The same can apply to Japanese video games.

On another note, specifically designed learn Japanese computer games can also help you to learn the language – reading, writing, comprehension and speaking Japanese. These games may not be as addictive as Final Fantasy or some other role playing game but they are probably more instructive and a faster way to learn the language.

These types of games take the form of word games, like crosswords and hangman. They generally reinforce a students understanding of vocabulary. The other types of Learn Japanese computer games are basically computerized or digital flashcards. In other words, the gamer player has to identify picture that represents the concept being taught. This could be as simple a the word for that picture or harder still the spoken word.

These types of picture games can get quite complex. A picture might represent a whole sentence and some fairly advanced linguistic concepts can be learned by playing such a game. In fact, some Learn Japanese software course base their whole method on this picture/word association.
